Banana Records*: Fostering Musical Innovation in the Art Techno Lab Virtual Residency

Updated: Mar 9

In the ever-evolving landscape of the music industry, the quest for innovation and collaboration is paramount. Within the virtual art residency of ART TECHNO LAB, a group of aspiring musicians found themselves drawn together by a shared passion for creativity and expression.

Tigran Avagyan and Sona Gevorgyan from Armenia, Ismael Luque Oliva, Alejandro Gómez Real, Irene Tenllado García from Spain and Leonor Ornelas, and Rodrigo Franco from Madeira, each bringing their unique talents and backgrounds to the table, united under the banner of Banana Records.

Their journey began with a chance encounter, sparked by a mutual desire to break free from the constraints of traditional music labels and explore new avenues of artistic freedom. Bonding over late-night jam sessions and impromptu brainstorming sessions, they soon realized the potential of pooling their talents and resources to create something truly groundbreaking.

Banana Records quickly emerged as a beacon of innovation within the virtual residency, providing a platform for experimentation and collaboration unlike any other. From experimental electronica to soul-stirring ballads, the collective's eclectic sound defied categorization, pushing the boundaries of conventional music genres.

As their collective vision began to take shape, Banana Records garnered attention from fellow residents and industry insiders alike. With each new release, they continued to captivate audiences with their bold sonic explorations, earning accolades and recognition within the global music community.

Today, Banana Records stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and creativity, proving that when like-minded individuals come together, the possibilities are truly endless. As they continue to chart new musical territories and inspire others to follow in their footsteps, the members of Banana Records remain committed to their shared mission of fostering innovation and pushing the boundaries of artistic expression.

We would like to thank the talented young photographer Daniel (https://www.instagram.com/_danik_bb_/) and resident of our ART TECHNO LAB for providing us with these photos, and we would also like to thank OpenAI for creating ChatGPT, the programme that helped us to write the actual article.

*PS: Project was created as part of an experimental virtual and real art residency ART TECHNO LAB held in Madeira in February 2024 and this is a prototype of a real art project. Our task was to learn how to create various digital products related to art, culture and heritage.
