Can craft help save the planet? We believe it can.

Every day we hear about climate change, overconsumption and mountains of waste. But what if one of the answers has been with us for centuries?

Craft teaches us to repair instead of replace. To create instead of consume. To value materials, time and human hands.

This is the philosophy behind Craftwork 4.0 All—a European initiative connecting artists, designers and makers who believe that creativity can help build a more sustainable future.

Today, ARTE.M – Artistic and Cultural Association is proud to launch the Portuguese Open Call for the Craft & Sustainability Festival 2026 in Barcelona.

We are looking for artists, craftspeople, designers and makers living in Portugal who want to become part of a growing European community where sustainability is not just a trend—it is a creative mindset.

important for all participants-onsite and online

Eligible countries

Bulgaria, Sweden, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Croatia, France, Ireland, Slovenia, Serbia, Slovakia, Greece.

Important participation conditions

Selected participants will be required to attend all programme sessions and actively engage in all planned activities. Full attendance is compulsory in order to receive the final Certificate of Achievement.

Before the start of the programme, all selected participants will be asked to sign a Craft Festival Agreement outlining the programme objectives, participation commitments, responsibilities, and certification conditions.

These conditions will be explicitly reflected in the Craft Festival Agreement signed by selected artists.

Selection criteria

  • Engagement with Themes — genuine interest in sustainability, circular economy, recycling, experimentation, creative development and collaboration.

Two additional considerations apply specifically to the in-person track: conditions of the pieces (size, fragility, packing) and geographic balance across the European partner consortium.
