Within the framework of the CraftWork4All project, we continue exploring what a craft happening can really be — not just a workshop, but a living process of collaboration, experimentation, and shared learning between artists and the public.

This edition — Madeira Viva: Sustainable Mosaic — brought together two very different yet deeply connected practices.

Nataliia Delibazoglo (Portugal), a crafter and art therapist, works at the intersection of creativity and psychology — using materials not only for artistic expression, but as a tool for emotional exploration and healing.

Alongside her, Michaela Sulcova (Czechia), a crafter and florist, approaches mosaic as a personal language — intuitive, sensory, and rooted in memory, nature, and imperfection.

Together, they opened up a space of co-creation, inviting participants to step into the process rather than just observe it.

The focus was on sustainable ceramics and mosaic — a technique that exists between breaking and rebuilding.

Old ceramic fragments were not discarded, but carefully reassembled into new forms, carrying traces of their past into something entirely new.

On Madeira, mosaic remains a relatively rare craft, which makes this exchange especially meaningful — expanding local knowledge while building new creative skills.

But perhaps the most important part was what participants experienced themselves:

“It is incredibly useful, so I will use it for both school and work

“When language is an issue, it helps us a lot”

“It was really significant for me to be able to express my thoughts via art instead of keeping them inside”

Through hands, materials, and shared space, the process became more than learning — it became connection.

Working with fragments, tools, and textures creates a grounded, tactile rhythm — supporting concentration, fine motor skills, and what we call active relaxation. A quiet, powerful way to reconnect — with materials, with others, and with yourself.

As always at ARTHub Madeira, sustainability is not just about materials — it’s about mindset, process, and collaboration.

Because sometimes, in the act of putting pieces back together, we find something whole.
