Call for Crafters: Islands of Memory – Making a Home and Heritage

For the first time since 2015, the Islands exhibition is expanding to include a new section fully dedicated to craft — and we are now inviting submissions!

This year’s edition, under the theme “Islands of Memory: Making a Home and Heritage,” explores how memory lives in our hands, our materials, and the spaces we call home. Whether you work with clay, wood, metal, fabric, glass, wool, or any other material — we want to hear from you.

The concept of “islands” is both literal and metaphorical. It speaks of Madeira, our island home, and of the personal islands we carry — moments, objects, and gestures that connect us to land, to others, and to ourselves.

We welcome submissions of both new and existing works that reflect your interpretation of memory, material, and transformation. Works will be selected by a curatorial team.

Selected pieces will be exhibited as part of Islands show from 4 October to 4 November 2025. This is an opportunity to be part of a collective reflection on heritage — rooted in the craft traditions of the past, but shaped by the present.

Open to crafters based in Madeira or anywhere in Portugal
